HBOI
is a research institute where students rely on sophisticated technologies to
complete their research projects. However, the students are often dependent on workshop personnel to
design and construct their research ideas.
A better instructional scenario, and one endorsed by researchers,
technicians and students, is to have access to design software and a 3D printer
to create prototypes for design testing.
As suggested by the research faculty, if the printer is capable of
printing with hard plastic or aluminum, the design could move from prototype to
actual project components. This improved process would be a better learning and
design experience and would reduce project time and costs.
